I
was reminded yesterday about the true power of a question. Consider
this - when we enquire, we examine the accuracy of something, whether
that is a statement, an assumption, a thought or a belief.
Questions bring about a sense of wonder that can open us up to new
ideas and opportunities that we may not yet be able to see. When we
focus on limitations and then stay there by dwelling on them...and this
is where most people go... then lack, scarcity and frustration remain in
our field of vision.
But... when you begin to question with positive expectancy, you
expand our horizons infinitely. With this subtle shift, you are able
to correct any problem, any issue or perceived obstacle. The results can
be nothing short of life-changing!
When we ask with positive expectations, we receive constructive
answers. This process has enabled every great breakthrough in
science, business and even the expansion of human consciousness. Every
great scientist, entrepreneur, philosopher and spiritual master has used
the approach of inquiry to create breakthroughs that have literally
changed how we perceive the world in which we live.
When you question your assumptions, you unleash your true power.
That simple, transformational act enables you to see the unlimited
possibilities for growth and expansion that are before you.
If you are currently experiencing an obstacle, consider that this
problem can actually be a gift. It can be a gift if it helps you
expand your field of vision. A recurring issue nudges you to discover
what may be holding you back from fully experiencing your greatest
dreams and goals.
We usually see these gifts, or our life's lessons, only with
hindsight. But, we can choose to see the gifts in front of us now by
simply pausing and recognizing an obstacle as a signpost that can point
us toward our desired destination.
When you experience a problem it's simply putting you on alert to
pause and adjust your focus. You do this by asking a different
question, so you can find the answers that move you forward in the best
possible way.
Here's how it can work. Imagine a goal or dream you've had that
hasn't manifested yet. See it in its finished form and really feel what
it's like to have achieved that goal. Have fun with this and revel in
how good you feel about your significant contributions and
accomplishments.
Now shift to an obstacle or issue that is frustrating you. This
is something that is keeping you from realizing the goal you just
visualized. Ask yourself these two questions:
1. What beliefs have to exist in order for this problem or obstacle to
occur?
2. What can I learn from this situation, so that I can reach my goal
with greater ease and confidence?
If you choose to pause now for a few minutes and write down what
comes to you, you may find this to be one of the most insightful
activities you ever perform. For it may point you to an underlying
belief that is keeping you from achieving your goal.
Here is what is almost always driving those seemingly insurmountable
roadblocks that pop up on a recurring basis - FEAR. It may be fear
of losing something like control or free time, perhaps we fear that
people won't like what we have to offer and we all know how much it
stings to feel rejection. Then there's fear of being wrong, not being
safe, or it's just simply fear of the unknown. I have often found that
my fears are only a threat to my ego and they pose no real risk to me.
The reality is, many of the common fears that keep us from fully
expressing ourselves, do not threaten our well being. They dwell
within our imagination and only have the power to stop us when we don't
recognize them for what they are...our ego's way of making us feel safe
by keeping us in our comfort zone.
Some motivational experts say "feel the fear and do it anyway".
That's fine, but if you have a fear that you do not address it can
continue to create unnecessary frustration and detours.
A very simple, yet powerful question you can ask yourself to dissolve
fear is:
What will happen if what I fear most comes to pass?
The answer is clearly nothing truly harmful unless you choose to let
your fears stop you. I'm not suggesting that you throw caution to
the wind and jump into anything without thoughtful consideration. I am
referring to releasing the patterns of doubt that keep you from fully
expressing who you truly are.
So, give yourself a gift. Question the obstacles you experience
so you can dissolve the underlying beliefs that no longer serve you and
move confidently forward with positive expectations of the great things
coming your way.
To your ever-expanding potential and until next time...
all the best to you and your dreams!
